As our world is quickly changing and more people are learning to accept different points of view, musical artists are challenging gender stereotypes in their music videos. Specifically, artists are finding ways to present women in non-provocative manners. We are beginning to see women play the roles that men would typically play. It is interesting because most of the videos that challenge the gender stereotype for women are by women.

"If I Were A Boy " by Beyonce is a very interesting example of challenging gender stereotypes because it experiences with the notion of switching gender roles. Beyonce is represented as a male as her husband prepares breakfast for her, she goes to work as a police officer, and her husband calls her worrying about why she is not yet home. Beyond the title of the song, this video demonstrates an understanding of the gender roles that our society has created.

so what- pink

Pink uses the music video for her hit, "So What", to demonstrate her lack of interest toward her ex-husband. Without emphasizing her challenge of gender norms and stereotypes, she places herself in a role that is not typical of a woman. Violence and destruction take place while is is dressed as a police officer and driving a tractor. In one portion of the video, Pink strips down for the paparazzi and is naked for the short moment in the music video. Normally, she would be taking on a seductive role but instead she dances around and is goofy.
